What do you put between you and your work? This was my day today:
What’s really most important?
I’m no saint. Sometimes I feel like I get to the end of a day, and I’ve only made it halfway through the stuff I didn’t even intend to do. How do you clear your head and your space to allow for great work to happen? And what do you put in your way, instead of focusing on your good work?
Hilarious, awesome and brilliant!!!! This should be framed and put on the wall near your desk :) And mine!!
Yes … but first… I will tweet about it … and then email you back, and so on and so forth. :) The IRONY of this is that I spent time doodling rather than actually, well, working. *sigh* such is life!
hahah you are truly an artist! And like me, have a wandering mind throughout the day. The only way I can get myself to focus is to carry a notecard in my left pocket that reminds me of the most important things to get done that day. Just 3 to 5 bullet points otherwise I get stressed about doing too much. That way when I am lost on Facebook or a re-run of 2 and 1/2 men, I pull out my notecard and attempt to go back to productivity.
One of my bullet points today was actually, Facebook… whoops.
Love the drawing. It’s so me, today! I am so easily distracted, especially if it is something I already don’t want to do. Usually, when I realize it’s 12:30pm and I’m still on Twitter/FB or yapping with friends on gchat I’ll turn to my to do list to remind myself of what I’m actually supposed to be doing. It doesn’t always mean I’ll immediately start doing it but at least I am reminded of what I’m avoiding.
Hi Sarah,
Can you teach me how to draw like that? I love it!
~Lauren
I say, just start drawing! I started only a few years ago and the more I do it, the more comfortable I get doing it. :) Everyone can draw. The old tome that people are either talented or not is a fallacy. Just pick up a pen and make a few lines and see where it takes you …
Hi ChaChanna! I know exactly what you mean!! I sometimes have to write notes about what I hope to accomplish on the internet before signing in. Another trick I use is to draft all my emails that are floating around in my head in a clean word document, before firing up the browser, so that I ‘get them all written down’ before I dive into the chaos that is our embedded, connected world. Good luck to you!!
TOTALLY a wandering mind. I love the notecard trick. I definitely use it. And one of your bullet points was Facebook!?!? — What does that mean? I’m so curious!
Yes, yes a bullet point was facebook. I do this because I want to be making interactions on facebook… no “stalking,” but actual interactions! It’s important to keep in touch and comment on what others are doing. So… it’s productive facebook time!
